This nifty little handy handy machine slices and dices...well, not quite, but it DOES slice the wool to the required width, depending on the cutter head. I've begun with a #8 cut which is 1/4" wide.
I'm not exactly a "rule follower", but more of a "wanna be". Was supposed to start in the middle, but the middle of this rug is all background. Background is NOT the most stimulating part of the adventure. I began with Big Daddy Quail first and am lovin' it. I'll behave now and settle in to work on some of the background in the center, lol. OK. So I am a rule follower, but they are MY RULES, dadgumit.
My dh and I have a hard time separating. If I am in my sewing room...eventually he's in there too. If he's outside on the patio...I'm digging up something to work on out there. It's just the way we are. 8^)
Rug Hooking gives me the opportunity to be in the great room WITH dh and hey! I can even watch TV..amazing.
My wool from Wendy arrived in Saturday's mail. Big Daddy Quail was my first day of progress "being a hooker". I had the wool in the washer and dryer faster than you can imagine, and had the worms cut before dinner.
Doin' the happy dance!

That looks like great fun! I do most of me machine sewing when my husband isn't home because I like to be in the same place as him when he's home. That's what handwork is for.
This is a great design. I like what you've done so far.
So, instead of yarn one uses thin slices of wool? That's really cool.
I liked what Ruth said, about handwork being for the times one is with husband (or family). That's a nice way to approach things.
I'm intrigued... And heh, I like being by myself. I do try to be sociable in the evenings, I knit or work on bindings. But if I'm outside , it's because I want to be left ALONE.
Great start so far!
That's so sweet that you two always end up in the same room.
Mom! that is AWESOME! Is it a wipe your feet kind of rug or hang on the wall? Where will you put it?
I loveeee it!
