Remember Jiffy Pop?

When I was young, I always begged my Mom to buy Jiffy Pop. Remember the predecessor to microwave popcorn? It looked so cool on the commercials, and I was sure all the lucky kids (other than me) got to have this all the time!

It was always "too expensive," or "not needed at this time." I can hear myself whining, "Please Mom?"

Fast forward, all grown-up (and then some) I can now have whatever I want, lol. Great expectations, funny, it wasn't that great. I had dh shaking it while I was busy snapping blog fodder...and we burned it! (We still ate it howsomever..HA!)

My ever-terrific dd#2 prepared this little video with my digital pictures, it's only 9 seconds, enjoy!

If you'd like to see a college kid's perspective on life, and see what other cool things dd#2 comes up with, please take a quick peek at her blog, she'd love it!

What other foods "of your past" have you tried as an adult? Wish I had some "Fizzies!" (They probably would taste terrible now, considering the advancements in technology, but I loved them as a kid!)

Ha! I love it!!! We had Jiffy Pop only when we were camping (cause how else do you get popcorn int he woods?) It was always burnt, too - mybe that's just the way Jiffy Pop is.

Oh, candy flashback. I LOVE Pixie Sticks, and sponge toffee (though it sticks to just about every one of my teeth now.) My friend Cari, who I haven't seen or heard from in FOREVER loves beer nuts. I found some at the grocery store and dropped 'em in the mail this morning. Let's see if she can figure out who sent them! Hee!

Ah yes, and I remember the burned kernels, too. Some things never change.

As for Fizzies, I think of them every time I take Airborne.

I'm thinking of candy cigarettes, and candy lipstick. So cool! But I don't imagine they make them any more. And how about those big red wax lips? Can you remember how they tasted? I can.

Candy flashback: My mom would send me to the store with a quarter to buy bread and I could have the change, which I would spend on candy. That bought a lot of candy in 1956.

I don't think anything tastes as it used to- I think they have messed with the recipes over the years. Examples: fudgecicles, Twinkies, even some candy bars.

I never remember fixing Jiffy Pop WITHOUT burning it, so I see nothing wrong whatsoever with the mini-movie. I blogged a while back about the long-lost foods of my childhood and remembered space food sticks and flavored straws for sipping up milk!

My grandma would suck on horehound lozenges that I loved. I grew up overseas so I don't remember much U.S. candy.

It's always the things we can't have that seem to be so wonderful - completely out of proportion to reality. I have had those experiences where there was something I wanted as a child, and got to have it as an adult, but can't think of any right now.

Hey, I don't live very far from your dd. I'm in Lexington, Ky.
Loved the beach pics. You're such a beach bum, wish I was there with you now.
