Over the hill but not 1/2 way there!

Since January 1, 2006 I have lost 31 pounds. To many, it seems like it's not such a big deal. To me, it is HUGE. To get to my goal weight, I need to loose a total of 72.5 pounds so actually I'm not even 1/2 way there. Calculating my average loss, I should reach my goal weight in November.

I am a big girl. Only 5'5" on a good day. My BMI was described as "morbidly obese", enough to scare me for the final time. Oh, like you, I've tried a few diets before. I did Weight Watchers and lost 30 (got pregnant, lol). I tried South Beach twice and each time lost 40, but never learned how to eat a healthy way that could last the rest of my days. Fad diets can be successful, but if you don't learn anything, then why bother!

My success this time is accredited to Food Journaling and being totally honest with myself. My DH and I keep a food journal thru CalorieKing . There is a free 14-day trial if you're interested. I am a firm believer that if you can finally get to the point of admission that you are "morbidly obese", and understand that your quality of life may be diminished by your own eating habits, then you are ready to be totally honest and take charge of yourself. No one drove me to Burger King or McDonalds but ME.

I am eating and eating, and very rarely are hungry. I finally am capable of understanding and applying nutritionial label information to our journalling, it was all Greek to me before! DH and I try to limit our restaurants to once during the week, and once during the weekend, and try to pick places where we will have the greatest opportunity to make good choices.

I guess my point today is for YOU to take a good look at yourself. Do you like what you see? No time like the present to take charge of yourself. I can't describe how I felt this morning, getting into a new pair of pants and not being cut off at the waist by the button..or not having to leave the shirt untucked because the pant's pleats are stretched to the max.

I am happy that I am taking care of ME. Very happy.

Yahoo!!! Have you discovered your collar bones yet? Mine are emerging and I'm getting a kick out of wearing lower necklines just to show those babies off. *grin>*

Fitzy, I am so proud of you!

Good luck in losing the rest of the weight. It's hard to do and I admire the 31 pounds you've lost already.

Just found your blog CONGRATS!!! Wow, I know it is no easy work to lose those pounds. I did it twice after 2 pregnancies, the third time those pounds stayed and stayed and multiplied tenfolds......how did you do it? Where did you start because somehow I want an easier way this trip. Both times I was years younger but felt I had never worked so hard in my life. I never got pregnant with overweight and my births were thrillers........15mins.
Now I need something else to motivate me.....
Cheering you on.

Right after my post I visited 'calorieking' and just about shouted 'Oh.....s...t' when I saw the name Alan B. because years ago while in Australia I purchased all of his diet books and used them to help me lose that 2nd time....but can't connect with those books again somehow.......I will certainly use his site and thanks for posting the link. He has one of the best and most sensible diet programmes around no fad foolishness, and I can vouch for it.....wow...of I go to join up!

Anonymous,

I am SO happy for you. My story and yours parallel closely. I kept each of 3 pregnancy weight gains and just kept going up.

"I feel validated", lol...knowing that someone else was motivated by something I said. Most of the time you just feel like your words are falling on deaf ears.

Please post to me about your success and trials too.

Holding your hand,
QuiltingFitzy
