We've begun the Christmas season with the visit from my dd#2. Unfortunately, I don't get days off from work so we try to make the best of our weekends and weekday evenings together. Next year I'll have seniority and will have vacation rights!
Sunday we went to the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. Who knew?! I *ahem* strongly dislike museums, I was prepared for the worst.
My goodness, it was WONDERFUL! Even old dogs CAN be taught new tricks. Don't prejudge for heavens sake.
Look at this big kitty. Hmmm, sorry, maybe a mountain lion? I don't think it's the ocelot, they aren't polka-dotty. They had a WHOLE ZOO. I was so pleasantly surprised.
And here is a photo taken from inside the Aviary. Look at the color of this hummingbird! These guys were buzzing ALL over, and dive-bombing to boot. I just have a cheap-o camera, so you know I was close!
Here's the official plaque, for those who are curious, lol.
We had a wonderful time, we'll definately go back. Loved it SO much we bought an annual membership. Yes, I do adapt well to change!
Please visit this museum if you're ever near Tucson, just a stone's throw from I-10.

The Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix is also fantastic. I visted it while in Arizona and Nevada and really enjoyed it although, being an easterner, the plants were absolutely alien to me. There wasn't a zoo but were definitely critters (mostly just looking at the visitors like, "What are you doing in my desert?"
Yes it was neat!!!
Oh what a fun day that must have been! Love the hummingbird. What great colors!
The Desert Museum is my favorite "Arizona-y' place to take visitors. The last time I was in the aviary, a hummer hovered RIGHT in front of my face for about 5 full minutes. I could have sat there while the rest of the group toured the whole place! Try Talesin West sometime when you come up to Phx. It was Frank Lloyd Wright's winter home.
so if you went to a museum with Erika then you have to go to a movie theater with me damn it!
Oh, so there is something to do in Tucson besides go to casinos! I will have to tell DH. LOL Sounds like fun and I would love to see the hummingbirds. It would be a great place to take the grandkids.
That hummer must have been worth the whole visit. What a marvelous bird. Good shot!
Have a fantastic holiday with your family...yeah, I know you will.
Thanks so much for posting on my blog! I rarely post anything there anymore, so was pleasantly surprised to find a comment! YES, I need more time for me! Thanks! Your blog is interesting..love the knitting! My cousin lives in Tucson and I think her husband works or has worked at that museum or the botanical one. Her hours are long and crazy too...she's coming out to see me soon for my son's wedding, so I'm excited!
Enjoy the holidays with your family!
What's the weather like in Arizona?
I think the cat might be an ocelot. I googled images for ocelot and they look like that.
I love museums, but something with birds and wildlife would be just that much better!!
Welcome to AZ E!!
Have a wonderful time with your family!
Yes, that hummingbird shot is wonderful. In Calif. I've tried to get a good picture of the hummingbirds there (not as pretty as yours!) but can never sneek up on them!
That looked like fun...and I love what you have done with Tonya's letters! Tracey
The cat is definately an Ocelot. How wonderful that you got to see one! Everyone says the desert museum is a must see. Happy New Year!
